Jimmy Rollins, or “J-Roll” as die-hard Phillies phans call him on the field, has always been known for his blazing speed and affinity for two-baggers. On Tuesday, April 13th, Rollins will look to add homerun king to an already impressive major league baseball resume.
While his Philadelphia Phillies teammates are resting after their home opener, Rollins will spend his afternoon launching baseballs in excess of 550 feet over a Philadelphia highway in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record.
The event, aptly named Red Bull Ball Park Cranks, will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the intersection of 20th Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway in downtown Philadelphia.
The current Guinness World Record for ‘longest batted ball’ stands at 578 feet. It is defined as the greatest distance one individual can hit a batted ball in a legal manner with no restriction on equipment. To aide Rollins in his quest, Red Bull has assembled a team of leading scientists to outfit J-Roll with specialized equipment. The event is 100% free and spectators are welcomed. So grab a few co-workers and kick off the baseball season in style with this one-of-a-kind event.
