Type: Part-time or Full-time internship / externship
Term: Spring 2010
Are you young, scrappy, and looking for an entry into the sports marketing world? Do you wish you could use your Facebook or Twitter skills to open that door? Now you can …
Activ8Social is a start-up sports & entertainment digital marketing agency with major clients. We are in need of a new resource to help launch high-profile professional athlete social media networks.
To put it simply, we are a young and energetic company, constantly chasing fun projects and tweaking our methodology as we learn. At A8S, we expect you to grab your laptop, find your best workspace, and make it happen! We are also closely partnered with a local sports marketing agency that brings over 20 years of proven experience in the industry.
THE DETAILS
WHO?
A8S is looking for a passionate sports fan with social media skills and business/marketing savvy. We need someone who can play at our pace: you have to be fast on the keyboard, experienced with the Big 4 (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr), and disciplined enough to make your own time yet meet all deadlines.
Key attributes and skills for desired applicant:
- Team player
- Critical thinker
- Problem solver
- Self-motivated
- Entrepreneurial
- Effective time management
WHAT?
A8S interns/externs contribute to the branding, promotion, and marketability of top professional athletes and sports properties. As a member of our team, you will have a vested interest in who wins the Super Bowl, who makes the NBA all-star team, and you will see first-hand the effect of an athlete’s World Series appearance on our business.
Intern/Extern role in building social media platforms for clients:
- Creation of authentic social media networks that include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr
- Populate platforms with existing archival content from athlete and sponsors
- Activation of growth strategies and promotional programs around major event
- Maintain properties during down times in order to retain communication with the fan base
A8S also needs a bright mind willing to help build company assets including: case studies, white papers, presentation templates, blog posts, company social media accounts, newsletters, and more.
WHERE?
Some of us work best at home, others in the coffee shop, or the “social” floor of the library … so unless the office cubicle is where you embrace your inner Einstein, A8S is open to having you work remotely, preferably in the DC or NYC areas.
However, to get the most out of the intern/extern experience, we do require some face-to-face time:
- Weekly meeting with A8S Partner at agreeable location (either DC or NYC)
- Monthly client reporting meetings at office headquarters
- Team-building activities and fun outside work events
- Conferences and local networking opportunities
WHEN?
As a part-time intern, we expect 20 hours per week although additional time commitment is welcomed.
Internship/Externship Terms: Application Window:
Spring: January – May November 15 – January 15 (extended)
Summer: June – August January 15 – March 15
Fall: September – December April 15 – May 15
WHY?
What are the benefits to working with a small start-up? Point blank—it is opportunity and unparalleled experience. A full-time employment opportunity may arise as new client accounts are generated, but it is not guaranteed. However, you will be asked to take on critical tasks that directly contribute to the company’s bottom line, and if you are shaping the direction on the business, we will do everything to make a permanent member of the a8s team.
Like every opportunity in life, they are what you make of them— so ask yourself if you’re responsible and organized enough to handle the challenge of working directly with elite professional athletes and sports agencies.
