March Madness is sadly over, but congratulations to the new champions, University of Kentucky! Since we know how the teams fared during the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, let's take a look at how Twitter did. Email marketing provider ExactTarget created an infographic by tracking the top trends over the course of the tournament.
Here are some key takeaways:
- There were 2,065,060 total tweets during the tournament!
- "Final Four" was the top trending word with 466,492 tweets.
- Kentucky raked in 147,916 Championship game tweets vs. 97,328 for Kansas.
- Lehigh won South region for most mentions during a game with 9,000+ in 2nd Round.
- Most popular tweet came from @SportsCenter after the Norfolk State win over Mizzou.
- Ohio State topped the mentions column during the tourney with over 20,000 tweets during the four rounds of the tournament.
